Privacy Policy
In short: Merienda has no user accounts, no servers of its own, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Your diary, foods, weight and profile stay on your iPhone and – if you turn on iCloud sync – in your private iCloud, which the developer cannot access. Data leaves your device only when you search or contribute to Open Food Facts, or when you write to support.

2. Data stored on your device
Merienda stores the following on your iPhone so the app can work:
- your food diary, saved foods, custom foods, recipes and meals,
- weight entries,
- profile and goal settings (for example birth date, sex, height, weight, activity level and nutrition goals), which are used to calculate your calorie and macro targets,
- app settings.
This data is processed only on your device. The developer has no access to it.
3. iCloud sync (optional)
If iCloud sync is turned on in Merienda's settings and you are signed in to iCloud, the data listed above is synced between your devices through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage). It is stored in your private iCloud database, which only you can access – not the developer. This processing is provided by Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy. You can turn sync off in the app at any time.
4. Apple Health (optional)
Merienda can connect to Apple Health only if you allow it in the iOS permission dialog. Depending on what you allow, Merienda
- reads your body weight (to import your weight history) and your workouts (to adjust carbohydrate guidance on long training days),
- writes the food you log (energy, protein, carbohydrates, fat) and your weight entries.
Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold and never shared with third parties. Weight values imported from Apple Health are stored in Merienda like weight entries you type in, and are therefore included in iCloud sync if you turn it on (see section 3). You can change or revoke access at any time in the Health app or in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
5. Open Food Facts
Merienda uses Open Food Facts, a free food database run by the non-profit association Open Food Facts (France). Merienda contains an offline copy of part of this database and searches it first. Your device sends a request to Open Food Facts when
- you search for a food online or scan a barcode that is not in the offline copy – the search term or barcode is transmitted;
- you add a new product or correct an existing one – the product data you enter and the photos of the packaging you take are transmitted and published publicly by Open Food Facts under open licences (ODbL for data, CC BY-SA for photos). Contributions are sent through a shared Merienda account, not under your name. Please don't include people or personal information in product photos.
With every request, Open Food Facts technically receives your IP address and the app name and version. Merienda does not send any identifier for you or your device. Open Food Facts' privacy policy applies: world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy.
6. Camera and on-device processing
The camera is used to scan barcodes and nutrition labels and to take product photos. Barcodes and label text are recognised on your device. Photos leave your device only if you submit them to Open Food Facts (section 5).
If you describe a meal in text, it is interpreted by Apple's on-device language model (Apple Intelligence). This happens on your device; the text is not sent to the developer.
The bundled databases (Swiss Food Composition Database, USDA FoodData Central portion sizes and the Open Food Facts offline copy) are part of the app and are searched offline.
7. Support emails
If you write to support@getmerienda.com, your email address, the content of your message and any attachments are processed to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). This address is hosted by Apple iCloud Mail (Apple). Apple may process data in the USA; Apple is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Emails are deleted when they are no longer needed to handle your request, unless legal retention periods apply.
8. TestFlight and crash reports
If you test a beta version through Apple TestFlight, Apple shares your name, email address and any feedback or screenshots you send with the developer. If you have allowed it in iOS Settings (Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share with App Developers), Apple provides the developer with anonymous crash and usage statistics. These services are operated by Apple.
9. This website
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). When you visit it, Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical request data to deliver the pages and protect against attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party content.
10. Legal basis
Merienda processes data on your device to provide the functions you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Access to Apple Health and the camera is based on your consent given in the iOS permission dialogs (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
11. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. Since the developer does not receive the data stored in the app, you can view, change and delete it directly in the app, in iCloud and in Apple Health. To delete everything: delete the app, remove its iCloud data under iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Merienda, and delete its data in the Health app if needed. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
12. Children
Merienda is not directed at children under 16.
13. Changes
This policy is updated when the app changes. The current version is always available at getmerienda.com/privacy.

- du online nach einem Lebensmittel suchst oder einen Barcode scannst, der nicht in der Offline-Kopie ist – übertragen wird der Suchbegriff bzw. der Barcode;
11. Deine Rechte
